Thick Head, Thick Head, Roly Poly Thick Head

A Ratings-Grabbing Lars Larson Post!

Earlier this evening, Jack Peek (one of the local blogosphere's most infamous commenters) sent out an email explaining why more and more men are becoming Repubicans. Included amongst the dozen or so recipients were ourselves and, of course, Lars Larson.

The joke was in the form of this image, which compares a carefully selected set of Republican women with a carefully selected set of Democratic women, with each set also carefully selected for the expression capture at the moment of the photograph.

Sophomoric at best, but entirely harmless in the scheme of things. But figuring that fair is fair, we realized the joke about Democratic women also implied something about Republican men. So, feeling either mischievous or insane, we sent a response back.

"So you're saying that Republicans don't care about politics or policy, just about staring at women?" we sent out to both the sender and receipients of Peek's original message. "Explains a lot." We even added a helpful textual smiley at the end to show for any humor-impaired recipients that we simply were engaging in tit-for-tat.

Almost immediately, Lars shot back a response, just to us: "It's a joke."

Sigh.

"Yes, Lars, I know this," we replied. "But there's also an implied joke about Repulican motivations. It's a shame that I can recognize a joke and you can't."

It's almost endlessly amusing to us that the man is so intent, on first instinct, to try to show up his political opponents as humorless, that he skips right the past the part where we did actually get the joke. Funnier still is that in that rush, he himself misses the second joke the first one implied.

Who's the humorless one, Lars?

It the interest of fairness, it should be pointed out that Jack Peek himself (though he did go on to try to make a rather strained point) did, in fact, get the joke-in-response, and laughed at it.

Lars Larson was ever thought to have a sense of humor? Heck I'd settle for him having sense of any kind other than the sense of ill will and moral degeneration he spreads . The only thing even remotely funny about Lars is his Phallic Cigar chomping (seems kinda obvious what thats all about..toot toot for the Steamworks) and the eternal desire to be a Rush or OReilly..which when you think of it is a sad set of goals.

"What do you want ot be when you grow up lars?"

"I want to be a hate spewing media troll who copies other hate spewing media trolls."

"Why thats nice little lars, now please stop sending nasty crayon creations to the immagrant kids..and no you may not snitchof any more classmates for not reciting the pledge with enough emotion"

Lars, and I do hope I can call you Lars, what you need to do in your qust to be what you deisre is make some Charles Foster Kane action... you need to get an illegal drug addiction quick, rail on about drug users being scum and then get caught by your illegal servant...or you need to make erotic falafel based phone calls to a staffer who latter turns on you like a senate vote on medicare.

As for the oft quoted Portlnad Commentator of note..yes it makes sense Lars would be in your camp. Shows the moral worth of those close to you.

Peace and Love folks..failing that..wit and microbrews.

    Tom and Bob
You have clearly demonstrated the intellectual superiority and kindness of the left.

  10. bill mcdonald on 29 Aug 2005

And the Iraq war has clearly demonstrated the intellectual inferiority and cruelty of the right.

  11. cleanhands on 29 Aug 2005

And the Iraq war has clearly demonstrated the intellectual inferiority and cruelty of the right.

Sure, it's a cheap throwaway line, but this statement is a wonderful demonstration (as long as we're doing demonstrations) of the thoughtless hatred practiced by some on the left.

Your premise appears to be that it would have been less cruel to all concerned to leave Saddam and his sons in place in Iraq, leaving the people of Iraq to suffer the daily depredations of these vile murderers.

Or is it that Saddam & Sons have just gotten a lot of bad press from the right-leaning media, and they were actually misunderstood - firm but comptetent administrators?

It's possible to disagree with the decision for this nation to go to war, but still recognize that it was, ultimately, a positive event in the global scale of things.

As for "intellectual inferiority," I suppose that this a reference to the canard that the President is somehow an idiot... never mind that most idiots don't graduate from Ivy-league schools, no matter who their daddies are.

I thought that "hate is not a family value," anyway. Hatred is what's gotten us to the point where young men deliberately fly planes into buildings and others strap on vests full of high explosives before heading out to the local mall.

How about instead of reflexive hatred and name-calling, we try out finding something - any one thing - that we do agree on, and then building up from that?

  12. bill mcdonald on 29 Aug 2005

You’re pretending Iraq was done for noble reasons. Wake up and smell the oil. And by the way the oil is burning and that’s where the stupidity part comes in: The plan hurt the world oil supply rather than helped it. As far as hatred: I do hate to see young soldiers getting killed for a stupid plan that can’t work, run by some of the same people who used to help Saddam in the first place. But you're behind on the talking points. You should be saying, “Okay, we lied our way into a preemptive war, and the reasons we did it turned out to be wrong, but that’s old news. When are you lefties going to stop living in the past?”

  13. cleanhands on 29 Aug 2005

And you're pretending that the war was started so that we could seize Iraq's oil -- a point which you refute yourself in the very next sentence.

In your blind hatred of Bush and anyone who might possibly agree with his policies in any area, you think that you've already got me pidgeonholed, categorized, classified and disposed of. All nice and neat -- and utterly unproductive.

Nope, I'm a real throwback -- I believe that we went into Iraq because its regime posed a legitimate threat to the United States of America, through its proud - and public - support of international terrorism, and through its proud - and public - pursuit (and use) of WMDs.

If Saddam was fooled, and we were fooled along with him, his intent towards our nation was still malign, and it would have been the height of Presidential irresponsibility to do nothing about him and his evil regime.

"Noble?" Sure, since I think that it's noble to defend our nation from "all enemies, foreign and domestic." And since I believe that the United States of America is still (in spite of the best efforts of your ilk) the best nation on this planet when it comes to individual freedoms, I can think of no more noble effort than to ensure its safety from those enemies.

So, any chance that we can get back to productive debate, where we find areas of agreement to build upon, or will the name-calling and mud-slinging continue unabated?

  14. bill mcdonald on 29 Aug 2005

I think I can find an area of agreement: This is a deeply divided country right now. We both think we're right, so let's leave it alone. Have a good day, my fellow blogger.

    A Ratings-Grabbing Lars Larson Post!

Kudos to you B!x, for admitting this post blatantly pandered to the leftist visitors/contributors of this blog. Lars is always a convenient whipping-boy for local Helenites.

It's funny, however, how Randy Leonard (the only local Democrat willing to make a fool of himself on the radio) can't participate in social discourse without resorting to unsupported opinion and petty insults (as broadcasted weekly on KXL's Oregon Crossfire).

At least Lars' arguments are somewhat informed.

  16. JS on 29 Aug 2005

"At least Lars' arguments are somewhat informed."

I think I just threw up a bit in my mouth...

  17. jayhaight on 29 Aug 2005

Well, this whole "No one died when Clintoon lied" is just a bit over the top. After all, John Kerry and Hillary were convinced as well that the threat was real at the time this all started up. Everybody was on the same page. It's just that some on the left conveniently misplaced their bookmarks.

Bill, I love some of your jokes, man. But it's beyond joking to say that the war is all about oil. Seen the news on Alberta, lately?

    http://www.macleans.ca/topstories/business/article.jsp?content=20050613_107308_107308

Gosh. If it was "all about oil", we'd be annexing Alberta right about now.

I don't comment much over here - I like what B!x does, and for the most part, I just read. But sometimes, the commentary gets just plain silly.

Do I like the war in Iraq? No. I think we should just have planted in Afghanistan for a while, and dealt with issues one at a time. But as it happens that we are there, it seems pretty counterproductive to pull a Sheehan on the place.

Any time you have neo-nazis and Al not-so-Sharpton supporting you, there's big trouble. And as I don't agree with Al or the Nazis, my path is pretty clear.

  18. bill mcdonald on 29 Aug 2005

I withdraw my remarks that the war in Iraq is about oil. I now believe we’re in the Middle East to lock up the world’s supply of hummus. Don’t knock it. Experts say Peak Hummus might already have happened.

  19. tomhiggins on 29 Aug 2005

To clear a few things up...I would not care how my comments make the "left" look since the "left" is just about an addled brain bunch as the "right". All those who go by such labels are the proble, and should find the nearest venue to depart this sad burlesque.

Part the second, wars ..yeah folks love to ax poetic about the justifications for breaking things and killing people...problem is in most cases the reasons given for breaking things and killing people often have something to do with
    1) redistribution of what one side has and the other does not
    2) some twisted ideas of face, nationalism or a badly worded lease between a diety and its followers
    3) See 1 and 2 above

Often a nation state will sow the seeds of the wars they seek to have, sometimes laying the seeds down decades in advance just in case sometimes tweeking whats in play to fit a current need. You want to bring up Sadams sons? Why not bring up the suport we gave Sadam and his family over the years. Not wanting to do that, seeing as it would ruin your Larsequse simplicty of ideology, just bring up either Jebus or Nationalism, in recent years the line between the two bluring as it is want to under the stain of the fundumbmentalists..

It is a sad thing to say that the often heard cry of War For Oil from the "lefties" is not even the whole of the story here. We truly and really have a executive body in place here in the US that thinks this is justified by thier diety...you dont hear that much cause it just dont play in the media so well.

Hawks will hunt though, its what they do. Reasons are secondary, logical is not even a close fourth.

Oh yea, to get this back on thread... Hi Lars...have you purchased a Clue yet?

THIS GOES DIRECTLY AT T. HIGGINS:

The message is sometimes war is needed, but as we see here in this pacifist town, where the majority voted for Kerry, who voted against very major defense bill just about ever.

The message is, it is war....those who want us dead teach their kids the hate you idiots say some of us on the right spew on places like this forum.

When that message finally comes to your door, you will be yelling for the people in uniform most of you dispise.

The Iraq thing could have been another country, the reason is the same, Bush told us we would fight terror where we found it, we would prevent another 911 if at all possible.

The countries that supported it like Iraq,(Iraq supported it,and so do all Muslim fanatics worldwide.

The people who need our help in Iraq will get it, those that don't,need KILLING.

You seem to make a distinction between hate mogeres like yourself and those not like yourself. I see you all as the same problem. You spew bile and hate while wrapped in a flag of one color while others do it with another flag, or relgious icon etc etc. Bottom line is you should all just go meet out on some stretch of sand and treat each other to whatever actions you want leaving the rest of the world to make a go at Life, LIberty and the Prusit of Happiness. Until you hate mongering types are out of the picture the very goals of this great country are DOA.

No wonder your so angry, you seek to kill that very thing you profess to treasure ..a walking contradiction leaving a trail of toxic spew that poisons everything you touch.
