Jack Bogdanski Resumes His Throne

'Willamette Week' Publishes 'Best Of Portland' Picks

Last year, when we won "Best Blog Jammer" in the Best of Portland 2004 picks from Willamette Week, it came with something of a proviso.

"Jack Bog's recent disappearance from Portland blog royalty left an empty throne in local cyberspace," the paper wrote a year ago, and then proceeded to deem us Bogdanski's "heir apparent".

This year, with Bogdanski long since having resumed plugging away, the weekly has followed suit, consistent with their caveat last year, and named Jack Bog's Blog as Best Blog for Wonks and Hackers.

(They really do like using words ending in "ackers" to describe blogs over there at Willamettte Week, don't they?)

We're not sure exactly how Bogdanski will take his being named best blog by Willamette Week, but coming on the heels of the Portland Tribune making copious use of his quotes, this would apepar to be Jack Bog Week in local media circles.

Meanwhile, over in this year's Reader's Poll (which we won last year), we fell to third behind second-place BlueOregon and this year's winner Commissioner Sam Adams in the "Best Local Blog" category.

    I voted for you, b!x!

I'm slightly relieved that you didn't quite make it because, if the way JB's been acting lately is any indication, inherting the throne to King of Blogistan comes with fully loaded with the attitude one might expect from a monarch.

That's just weird. While I understand the logic behind Blue Oregon and Commisioner Adam's blog, I honestly just dont find Jack's to be all that informative per say -- sure it's loaded with amusing opinion, drama and the related links -- but it's not thorough in backing up the stance of the author so for me -- its more of a sidebar on local issues. There are some sites I check every day -- and repeatedly throughout the day. Jack's blog is a monthly hit at best.

Well, I still read him every day, anyway.

While I have nothing against Commissioner Adams' blog, having it show up so prominently so soon smacks of the 'Restaurant of the Year' award given clarklewis by The O after it'd only been open three months...

To keep things in perspective, one of the other poll categories was "best lap dance."

The greatest reward of blogging is when something you write resonates and makes a difference.

Did you freaking win that one, too?!

The difference is, clarklewis deserves such an award.

The way you phrase that comment, Betsy, alludes to some sort of shady-ness, which I think is a little much.

I think it's preposterous that Sam Adams got Best local blog, he's only been up for a few months, and while I respect the fact that he uses his blog to garner input about various issues, I don't think his blog has the scope of bojack or b!X.

I didn't mean to allude to any shadiness whatsoever in this particular instance.

Full disclosure: I was once employed by, and am still friends with, Michael + Naomi Hebberoy, founders/owners/operators of ripe/clarklewis/etc.

That said- their food/empire is quite impressive, and deserving of the hype.

Sorry for the barrage of "/"s.
