Free Beer! (A Follow-Up)
Phil Stanford, Jonathan Nicholas, And The Skidmore Fountain
Two months ago, we picked up on an Oregonian column by Jonathan Nicholas about the Skidmore Fountain and free beer.
Anyone know if he ever published the promised follow-up? We're fairly certain we've checked every column of his since then and never saw one. We ask because today's Phil Stanford column in the Portland Tribune picks up where Nicholas left off.
While the original Nicholas item said that "[a] plot is afoot to revive" the historical moment when Henry Weinhard wanted to pump beer through the fountain during its unveiling (a plan which was nixed), he ended it there. According to Stanford, the current plan comes from the Oregon Cultural Heritage Commission, and apparently is scheduled for September 22.

I'd be interested in knowing what kind of cleaning the Skidmore needs to undergo for the Dept. of Health to approve such a bacchanalia. Or should "pumped from nearby kegs" be taken literally?

Perhaps this is the right place to let everyone know that there will be a story abotu Portland on All things Considered today.
A friend emailed me and said we're all liberal beer drinking birkenstock wearers.
Now I know that b!x fits that description! ;-)

I have not now, nor have I ever worn, Birkenstocks. As for the liberal beer drinking, no comment.

Huh. I stopped paying attention to Jonathan Nicholas after he was suspended a few years back for plagiarism. That he remains on the O staff is mute testimony to the extent of their regard for honesty.

Don't they wear Birkenstocks down in Eugene?
