Spend Part Of Your Weekend With The Dead

This Saturday Night At Lone Fir Cemetery

When we moved, not too long ago, we ended up a handful of blocks west of the Lone Fir Cemetery, describes by its inevitable "Friends Of" group as "the final resting place of the noble, the average and the notorious citizens of Portland and Oregon."

We mention this now in order to give advance notice that this weekend, on Saturday, July 30, that Friends of Lone Fir Cemetery is holding an evening tour of the cemetery, with "local performers" presenting "the tales of famous and infamous folks whose final resting place is in this pioneer cemetery."

(Also, we mention this to give you a brief something here to read while we continue with our motivational struggles regarding a write-up of a meeting last week on Commissioner Adams' proposal to register lobbyists.)

This event is scheduled for 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, July 30, at the Soldier's Monument in Lone Fir Cemetery, located at 2115 SE Morrison Street.

Thanks for the heads-up! Lone Fir is one of my favorite places.

Lone Fir needs friends. After hours, it can be a pretty dangerous place. Neighbors of the place (including the folks across the street at Central Catholic High) tell all sorts of sordid tales. Support the foks who are trying to clean up some of the problems!

I was attending Central Catholic when Madonna filmed a a scene from "Body of Evidence" at Lone Fir. We did a tour of the cemetary not long after . . . a VERY interesting place.

Be sure to wear sturdy closed-toe shoes if you go - there's more than a few hazards at foot level.

Okay, nobody else asked (and I fully understand why not) but I will anyway: Will they be Grateful?
