Possible Online Commentary For Online Journalism Awards
Our Own Semi-Finalist List
Last week, we sought input on potential Portland Communique entries to the Online Journalism Awards, including for the Online Commentary category for which entrants can submit up to five examples.
What follows is our own initial look at possible entries for that category, taken from material posted here between July 1, 2004, and June 30, 2005. We cast a wide net in this first pass, pretty likely including some posts which don't fit, on the assumption that it was better to start with a large set and whittle it down.
Our readers, of course, continue to be invited to dig up their own picks, since in addition to material we selected here that should not have been, there might be material from that time period that didn't make it into our own "semi-finalist" list.

For sure, Fear and Prejudice ought to be among your choices; it's a good and strong piece.
Also, Portland FBI Demonstrates would be a good choice for its sharp insight and expression.

So far, I'm looking at three in particular.
An Ethic Of Accessibility
Mediocrity For Mayor!
Endorsement: No On Measure 36

I'm also partial to this one:
Fred Stickel's War On Civil Liberties

And I'm wondering now. Since those four that I'm personally looking at the most right now provide a spectrum from Oregonian/JTTF, to same-sex marriage, to the Mayoral campaign, to a broader civic content, maybe adding The Elements Of Journalism And Weblog Ethics as the fifth would round out a decent cross-section of the sorts of thigns about which I've had a strong opinion?

Okay, yeah, that's a good mix you're considering given the spectrum criterion.
