Fundraising Goal Reached For ONA Awards Fees
Courtesy Of Quick Reader Response
Our thanks to our readers, whose contributions have reached the goal we set for the entry fees needed to submit material to this year's Online Journalism Awards. That goal was achieved in a little under 48 hours (with most coming in during the first 24) and we have removed all links to the Dropcash campaign we had been running for this purpose.
We will, as originally indicated, be entering under the General Excellence in Online Journalism and Online Commentary categories. For reference, we're including here the descriptions of these categories, along with links to the material we will be submitting to each.
General Excellence in Online Journalism
This category honors a Web site that successfully fulfills its editorial mission, effectively serves its audience, maximizes the use of the Web's characteristics and represents the highest journalistic standards. The sites will be judged on excellence of content, interactivity, multimedia, design, navigation and community tools. Entries may consist of one main URL and up to three additional sub-URLs in the same domain (to highlight specific features).
- The One True b!X's PORTLAND COMMUNIQUE
- 2004 Mayoral Campaign Archives
- Burnside Bridgehead Archives
- Joint Terrorism Task Force Archives
Online Commentary
This category honors a unique and powerful voice of commentary original to the Web. The commentary should display freshness of insight and clear writing. Creative use of the medium -- especially in the areas of blogging and community journalism and/or commentary -- will be considered. A writer's entry may consist of up to five examples.
- An Ethic Of Accessibility
- Mediocrity For Mayor!
- Endorsement: No On Measure 36
- Fred Stickel's War On Civil Liberties
- The Elements Of Journalism And Weblog Ethics
Again, our thanks to all who contributed to our quickie fundraising drive for the fees necessary to participate in this year's awards under the above two categories, We will, of course, post updates on the awards process as they become available.
Because the screeners for the awards will be reviewing submissions from July 21 until August 13, we don't expect anything new to report until after that period.
