Does This Mean We've Finally Arrived?
Domain Squatting As Status Symbol
So despite the media references and the radio appearances, could we ever have truly claimed to have "arrived" until this moment?
Yes, this morning we discovered that on June 1 of this year a squatter registered the portlandcommunique.com domain.
Now, we have neither any use for nor interest in that domain, since our decision to launch this site only after we secured the locality-based domain we still use today was motivated by a desire for the domain to "brand" the site as being intrinsically tied to Portland, Oregon.
But it was worth a brief mention, as we work on finishing up a certain series of posts this morning, since it's one of those minor geek threshold moments where some weasel out there thought they should take our name and nab and sit on the .com address.
Lord knows what in the world they think they're ever going to be able to do with the damned thing.
