Bureaus, Bureaus, Who's Got The Bureaus?
Within Two Weeks, We Should Know
"So far, Potter has offered little insight into who will get what or how he'll decide," says The Oregonian, "But he's promised to hand the bureaus back by July 1, and he began meeting one-on-one with commissioners on Monday to hear what they want."
"Mum's still the word, says the Portland Tribune, "but Potter said he will sit down with commissioners this week to 'negotiate' with them, since he wants them to 'like what they get.'"
That would explain why, when perusing Potter's calendar for this week, we noticed meetings with Commissioners Adams, Leonard, Saltzman, and Sten. Normally, there are monthly "check-in" meetings with Potter's fellow Council members unless there's something specific that's cropped up.
While the Tribune item is just a short bit in their Sources Say column, The Oregonian offers a general overview of the Mayor's power to delegate bureau assignments, what's at stake with such assignments, and a quick look at the troublesome bureaus no one really wants.
As for these discussions between the Mayor and Commissioners as to what bureaus the latter want to see in their respective portfolios, see our May 31 post wherein they all share their thoughts.
