Editor Goes From 'True' To 'Toon'

Nice Hat, Don't You Think?

cartoon_head.jpgWe've hesitated to bring this up, because it requires linking to an article about a certain incident which we deliberately, apparently along with everyone else here, have let slide into the past.

But as we move into the weekend, and as we sit here awaiting the completion of our meatloaf, we feel we should answer a question that family, friends, and acquaintances have all been asking.

Yes, the figure represented in the George Pfromm II artwork which accompanies the linked Portland Mercury article indeed is meant to be us. Nearly everyone who's asked us about it has been pointing to the hat as the proof.

Not wanting to jump to any self-centered conclusions, we asked if the piece was some stock image Pfromm had around somewhere, or if it had been made specifically for the article.

"Stock? Nah, that illustration was special for this article," Phil Busse told us. "My description of you apparently did not quite convey all of your beauty and personality. But we got the cap!"

As we said, the hat did appear to be the dead giveaway to everyone who asked about this.

So there's the light and airy post for this Friday afternoon. As far as we know, this is the first time we've ever been memorialized in a cartoon. And, yes, we will be printing out the nice hi-res version which was sent to us, on nice photo-quality paper, and hanging it on our wall.

    b!X,
I like your hat. It was how I first identified you at a city council session.

That's awesome. I'd love to see a cartoon version of myself. Now I may copy this idea and get a friend to illustrate me for my blog. Thanks for the inspiration.

Say, I could have used that hat when I was just down there. All I had was a cotton sun hat that looked like it was missing some well-placed fish hooks and flies. I nearly froze. It's much warmer (and DRYER) up here in Alaska...

Congratulations on being cartoonalized. You look spiffy. Keep up the good work! (You must be doing something right, to get so many fruit of the looms in such a wad. Call it: The Fruity Twist.) I'm proud of your community involvement. Very, very proud. To the point of nostalgia.

Hrm...If I were a Toon, who would I most like to meet? I was going to make a smarmy comment about you meeting Jessica Rabbit, but it was lame.
Maybe your Toon could get a part in the next Incredibles?

And I guess now you REALLY have to wear that hat everywhere (like you don't already). It is an official calling card.

Yup, that's him as depicted by George Pfromm II, who did the illustration to accompany an article in the Portland Mercury that gave a rundown on the cyber-attack on b!X by a Portland PR flak. b!X posts about the...
