Potter Makes Second Nomination For Portland Development Commission

'Communique' Therefore Seeks New Potential Site Sponsor

According to a press release just out of the Mayor's office, local businessman Mark Rosenbaum has been tapped as Potter's second nomination to fill a seat on the Portland Development Commission.

We don't have much to say on this right now, except to say that this might perhaps help explain why Rosenbaum Financial didn't end up becoming a site sponsor here as was originally planned, although we're just speculating on that.

Even if that's not why things went silent in the site sponsorship discussion, it does pretty much put them out of bounds in that regard, so we are once again seeking a local site sponsorship for Portland Communique. You can see an example of what this means by starting here and following the relevant links.

Today's Oregonian article on the appointment doesn't seem to mention any relevant qualifications or experience that Mr. Rosenbaum brings to the DEVELOPMENT Commission. He did apparently serve as the chair of the Mayor's campaign committee, though. Kinda smacks of cronyism, don't it?.

I know Mark Rosenbaum and his parents, Jane and Fred Rosenbaum.

Fred was the long-time chair of the Housing Authority of Portland. He founded Camp Rosenbaum. His wife, Jane, worked tirelessly to support the Holocaust Memorial.

Mark served as Tom Potter's campaign chair. I don't remember him being as involved in other local races in the past.

(Both Mark and Fred helped me in my race for Portland City Council.)

I know that Tom Potter respects and trusts Mark--two important traits if his appointees are to be successful in transforming PDC.

Mark runs a small business--useful experience as Potter follows through on his pledge to use New Market tax credits and other tools to help revitalize neighborhoods and strengthen small businesses.

I believe Mark will be an excellent commissioner.

I also know Mark Rosenbaum. He is a level-headed person with a good financial mind who will be an asset to PDC.
