First Annual Portland's April Fool Contest

We Know You've Got An Opinion, So Let It Rip

Every year around this time, we briefly mull the idea of concocting an April Fool's Day post, which is something of a time-honored tradition online.

There's a long-standing habit of issuing bogus technical documents in the form of what are known as Requests for Comments (here is this year's). Companies such as Sun Microsystems and Google have issued fake product announcements (like this one).

We're never quite inspired enough to play that game, and this year has almost inevitably proven to be no exception to that rule.

Instead, we're opening up a comment thread specifically to accept reader picks for Portland's April Fool of 2005 -- that person of note from any given segment of Portland politics, society, or culture you think is most deserving of being placed upon the list of the foolish.

So this thread is yours. Who amongst all of the possibilities do you choose to be Portland's April Fool of 2005, and why?

You could just let Peek take over the PC for a day...the day is called April FOOLs, it would be a great fit:)-

I can see it now, the place would be renamed REMEBER 9/11 YOU LIBERAL COMMUNISTS and Peek could do some hard hitting exposes on the radical lefty liberals connection with all sorts of terrorist activities.

    On second thought.....

B!x - why are you trying to distract us from the recent announcement in The Oregonian that you have been appointed to the JTTF? Why the silence?

PS... Jack Peek is kinda cute, doncha think?

Word has it that Kevin Mannix wants to form a coalition with Oregon's anarchists for the '06 election.

    ;-)

Somebody from Texas Pacific ought to get an honorary nomination.

Hmph. Suprised nobody's mentioned Neil Goldschmidt. I hear he's joining the priesthood and changed his name to O'Goldschmonnor (guess I better pencil in some time for Saturday confession after that joke).

Jack Bogdanski's exclusive photo of Jack Peek came the closest to making milk come out my nose of anything I saw that day.

Here's my favourite Peek story- just after the so-called election last Nov. I received an "anonymous" email that was obviously from Peek (that unmistakable incoherent rambling and paranoia was a dead giveaway) crowing about the Republicans winning the election and the rest of us being a bunch of hippie losers. Apparently he got my email address (and others as wel) from Jack's site and sent out his little communique. Does he not have any idea how repugnent he is? I think he and Lars were sepreated at birth.
