Big Week On The Same-Sex Marriage Front

Civil Unions Bill Introduced, Court Decision Imminent

An odd confluence of timing brought two announcements today. First, the Governor announced "announced that he and a bipartisan group of State Senators introduced legislation that would outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation and provide legal protections and recognition of committed, same-sex relationships through a civil union." Second, the Oregon Supreme Court announced that the decision in Li v. State of Oregon will be released tomorrow.

For more on both announcements, see the Basic Rights Oregon weblog. And KGW has a report on the civil unions bill.

According to the Supreme Court announcement, the opinion should be posted online at about 9:00 AM tomorrow morning. If we've gotten the naming scheme right, it should appear at this link when it's posted.

Meanwhile, the civil unions bill -- SB 1000 -- does not yet appear in the list of published bills.
