KGW Obtains Police Bureau Memo On JTTF Issues
Outlines Case For Status Quo
During last week's news conference regarding the proposed JTTF oversight resolution, Mayor Tom Potter, in response to a question from a reporter, said that he had some material from Chief Derrick Foxworth that he would release once it had been vetted to remove any information that might interfere with actual investigations.
We have no idea if the memo obtained by KGW (pdf, local copy) is the entirety of that material. If it is, there's certainly nothing operational in it that would have prevented its disclosure.
That said, we've only just started reviewing the memo, which sets forth the Bureau's views of the benefits of remaining part of the Task Force and risks of withdrawl. It also appears to provide further characterizations of current processes in place regarding compliance with ORS 181.575 and ORS 181.850.
We didn't expect to have any major new elements to the JTTF story overnight (which may be naive, since it does make sense that anything which might have the chance of boosting the FBI's position at the last minute naturally would suddenly appear the night before the City Council hearing), so we're still gearing up to read through the memo. But we figured we should at least post about its existence in the meantime.
