'Communique' Invades KBOO Community Radio
Speaks Softly And Carries Little Schtick
All in all, we were not as impressed with our performance this morning on KBOO's Thursday Morning Radiozine as we were with our performance during our December appearance on OPB.
Mainly, we blame that on being more disconcerted doing live radio as opposed to taping a segment in advance. Too tricky to think and respond on our feet, and that leads to our sentences trailing off into the barely audible.
That aside, feel free to listen to this morning's segment (mp3), although we warn you in advance that so far we've only managed to export it down to a hefty 19 MB or so.
Should you play it through, you will hear us discussing this site, weblogs, the media, and a little bit about the Joint Terrorism Task Force and same-sex marriage.

I thought you were fine. I also thought the interviewer was befuddled, disorganized and unfocused. She didn't do anything to make it easy on you, even if she wasn't consciously making it hard on you. Only so much you can do in such a situation.

Yeah, that interviewer sucked, befuddled, disorganized, didn't, make it easy on you, even if she wasn't consciously making it hard on you...er, whatever. But seriously, next time let's chart out one hot topic for the whole 30 minutes, and maybe invite along another knowledgeable guest who can also contribute to the discussion, like Dave Mazza of the Portland Alliance or one of the juicy Willy Week crew. It was tough to provide a beginner's view of B!Xworld, because you cover so many issues so well. And we didn't even get to the VoodDoo Donut-creme story. YOU SHOULD BE A REGULAR COMMENTATOR ON THE BOO.
It was a good show in that, afterward, a few fistfuls of folks who'd never heard of the P-land Communique (and couldn't spell it) let me know they were going to check it out. And they ALL throught they already KNEW it all. So hopefully, we got 6,000 listeners who'd never heard of you interested enough to engage in your cyberscene (that's the estimated listenership to this show).
You deserve mondo support for the work you do, and I'm going to drag you back on the air no matter what mph-man says. L

Actually, I think that both you and the interviewer did fine. She obviously knows this blog well and pointed her questions in the right direction. You just need to sit closer to the microphone next time.

This interview is why, for the most part, KBOO is an embaresment to what ever cause they are hawking.
Point, no one who knows bix calls you BIXMAN or Christoper. This is a surface issue to be sure but it show the lack of depth the interviewer shows the topic.
Point, the "Its spelt like Communist" thing...again it shows a lack of depth and simply shows a coopting of the interviewers preset view on things rather than the subject matter at hand.
Point, I would not call it befuddled but it always strikes me how reporter/interviewers who parrot ideologies simply can not think fast enough to encompass new ideas without coopting them to thier singleminded world view. Be it the RightWingWhackJob media or the LeftyDrippyNoSubstanceAllSlogan media it always ruins what could otherwise be a good story.
Bix, you worked with the it and got some great ideas out. Your voice is strong enough to rise above the muddle of the interviewers lack of depth.
"..its like democratic.." yeeesh
