Civil Disobedience In Multnomah County, One Year Ago

The Same-Sex Marriage Anniversary

One year ago today, Multnomah County began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, sparking a months-long battle that still continues, with the Oregon Supreme Court considering the fate of the consolidated legal battle, and the Oregon Legislature hearing towards consideration of bills ranging in subject from adoption by same-sex parents to civil unions.

In many ways, it was the single largest story we covered last year, and if we didn't write more material on it than anyone else in town, it might come close.

To mark the day, we present a list of the items we posted on March 3, 2004, as the couples began to celebrate, and the debate began to rage. Of course, all our posts on ths subject are accessible via our same-sex marriage archives. Or, if so inclined, you can order Portland Communique - Same-Sex Marriage: February 2004 - December 2004 via PORTLAND COMMUNIQUE Press.
