Anyone Going Down To Salem Tomorrow?
Committee Hearing On Grand Juries And Police Use Of Dealy Force
Tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM, the Senate Judiciary Committee is holding a hearing on a proposal to require access (barring certain exceptions) to grand jury records in cases involving police officers' use of deadly force.
Looking at the Greyhound schedules, if we want to make it down for this, we'd have to leave at something like 7:00 AM and sit around in Salem for four hours before the hearing time. We didn't notice how long we'd be sitting around in Salem afterwards before the return trip.
So, it's a longshot, but any chance any of our readers are going down to this hearing tomorrow and have an extra seat in their car?

FYI:
Amtrak has a bus leaving Portland at 11:15 a.m. which arrives in Salem at 12:15 p.m. Another Amtrak bus leaves Salem at 3:10 p.m. which arrives in Portland at 4:15 p.m. The Salem train station is basically kitty corner from to the SE corner of Willamette University. WU is just south of the capital accross State St.
The State of Oregon has regular Portland-Salem shuttles for for state employees. I took it a few times in 1993 to cover the legislature for the PissU. Vanguard. It wouldn't hurt to ask around to see if you could hop on.

According to a press notice I just saw, Sam Adams is going down to testify. Perhaps you can catch a ride with him. Or does that violate journalistic principles?

Actually, it appears that they audio stream committee hearings. So I will just stay home and listen while I continue packing for my move and pretending I'm not going to have to do some serious bill juggling while making said move.
