'Willamette Week' Puts Local Bloggers Amongst Political Winners Of The Year

Plus Some Updates On 'Communique'

Today's edition of Willamette Week continued its love affair with the local weblog scene, by declaring local bloggers amongst the winners in local politics this past year.

More competition for the Northwest's largest daily: Local bloggers came on like a biting sow in 2004, providing wit, sass, fresh voices and sometimes even news to the chattering classes. Christopher Frankonis (a.k.a. the One True b!X), Jack Bogdanski (bojack.org) and BlueOregon (a host of earnest lefties corralled by Kari Chisholm) all broke--and made--news during the fall election season.

Meanwhile, readers may notice the sudden and unexpected appearance of advertisements via Google Adsense on this site. We're running an experiment, since we weren't able to participate in this program until recently (long story, don't ask). We may be tweaking them now and then as this experiment plays itself out.

Finally, as to the Willamette Week Give Guide thing, we'll be able to announce how that went for us sometime after the first of the new year. In the final couple of weeks of the Give Guide's existence, we've been running ads on other weblogs outside of Portland -- mainly those which attract the wider audience of people who discuss the interaction of weblogs and journalism -- and while we've definitely been getting traffic from those ads, we don't now yet if it translated into some extra contributions.
