(Updated) Oregon Supreme Court Hears Same-Sex Marriage Arguments Tomorrow

'Communique' Heads To Salem In The Morning

Note: This post has been updated. Any and all updates appear at the end of the original post.

Since we will be in Salem for the bulk of the day tomorrow (we leave early in the morning via bus) for the Oregon Supreme Court oral arguments on same-sex marriage, we figured we'd toss out a trio of recent news stories on the matter.

On Sunday, The Bulletin had a look at the issues involved, and points out that since "Measure 36 was not retroactive" the court must decide "whether the licenses [issued in Multnomah County] were ever valid to begin with."

On Monday, The Oregonian offered its summation of where things stand heading into Wednesday's hearing, and provides some historical background on other statewide battles of gay rights in Oregon.

And today, the Statesman Journal provides its briefing and includes lists of the "key players" in the Oregon case and of court rulings from other states.

Finally, those readers from Salem, or readers heading to Salem for one of the two rallies and/or the arguments themselves, feel free to flag us down (our number is on this site's contact page). Our plan at this point is to try to hit both pre-argument rallies and then join the group hearing to Willamette University to watch the proceedings via video hookup.

But since we'll be in town starting at about 8:30 AM, we're going to find a place for a pre-arguments breakfast. So anyone who will be in Salem early is invited to call us if they want to join us for that.

Update

Yes, we should be going to bed since we have a very early day in the morning. But we wanted to pass along the pre-arguments Associated Press article we jsut came across as a bonus item.

Update

According to this Gay American post, referencing information from the Statesman Journal, here are some other ways the hearing will be available: At the State Capitol it will be airing in Hearing Rooms B and C and possible A as well; on Channel 22 of Capitol Community Television; and via webcast from the Oregon Legislature website.
