(Updated) Yay! A Campaign Round-Up Item!

Note: This post has been updated. Any and all updates appear at the end of the original post.

First of all, check this item for some of the details on what Me For Mayor: Act Two intends to be doing in the aftermath of Phil Busse's loss in the primary election. The new organization has a board in place and has selected a few initial proposals to push, including: an equal benefits ordinance; a concert of local bands to raise money for public schools; PDC loans to minority entrepreneurs; a biodiesel bus pilot project; and aninternational cycling race.

Quote of note from Busse's brief speech at last night's launch party: "The great thing about this is that we have to have absolutely no focus." We understand what this is supposed to mean, but it's more entertaining to just leave it hanging here like that.

The above also indicates that we indeed left headquarters last night to put ourselves in the midst of a crowded social scene, something that some readers know we don't particularly enjoy. But we did have some interesting conversatison regarding same-sex marriage, the archdiocese bankruptcy, motivational problems during Summer months, and local politicos who will be heading to the Democratic National Convention.

Stupidly, we forgot to take notes based upon the whiteboard which had named drinks after various local politicians.

Also announced last night (at least, we haven't seen it anywhere else) is a series of general election public forums sponsored by The Portland Mercury. According to the handout, the forums -- under the banner "You Promised!" -- will feature the remaining candidates for Mayor and Commissioner No. 1: "Each candidate will present five ideas he promises to implement during his first year in office."

Parenthetically, we're getting very close to being able to announce our own unique spin on candidate debates to take place in the early days of the general election campaign. So keep an eye out for that announcement in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, in today's Portland Tribune, Promise King looks at Tom Potter, and of course today's Oregonian article on the Francesconi resolution regarding the Police Bureau includes some of the Mayoral campaign aspects as well.

Update

Email from a reader suggests that the following were on the drink list at last night's political shindig:

  • Tom Potter - Manhattan (with Maker's Mark)
  • Phil Busse - Gin and Tonic
  • Serena Cruz - Cosmopolitan
  • Eric Sten - Cheap Red Wine
  • Jim Francessconi - Chianti

We think there were at least one or two others -- probably at least a Nick Fish in there somewhere -- but whatever they might have been escapes us.
