(Updated) Ride To And From Salem Needed The Morning Of July 23

Explanatory Statement For Anti-Marriage Initiative To Be Drafted

Note: This post has been updated. Any and all updates appear at the end of the original post.

Automobile-challenged as we are (we don't even have a license), we turn to our readers for potential help with this. On the morning of Friday, July 23, the committee responsible for writing the explanatory statement for the anti-marriage ballot iniative holds its drafting meeting at the State Capitol, beginning at 9:00 AM.

If any readers would be interested in attending this public meeting and are willing to play chauffeur, please let us know, because we would like to go report on the discussion.

In the case of explanatory statement committees for initiatives, chief petitioners appoint two members, the Secretary of State appoints two members, and those four members select a fifth and final member. For this particular committee, the memebrs are: Kelly Clark and Tim Nasif (the chief petitioner appointees), Roger Gray and Maura Roche (the Secretary of State appointees), and Kathleen Beaufait (the committee appointee).

Out thanks to anyone who might be willing to help us out. It should go without saying, of course, that we will help pay for gas.

Update (07/16/04): We appear to now have plans for a ride down to Salem for this. Our thanks to all who pitched offers and suggestions.

Greyhound is only $16, FWIW. But you'd have to get on the bus at 5:45am :/

I take the train back and forth between portland and salem all the time, the whole thing round trip is about 18 bucks.

I may be headed down that day, hehe I'll keep you company on the ride if you want. Sadly I am not legal to drive either or I'd be glad to take you.

If all else fails, I can come up and fetch you that morning. (Obviously not an ideal situation, but hey.) Hopefully someone already heading this way can give you a ride, saving rather a lot of fuel. But if you haven't found anything else by the 21st, let me know and I'll get you here.

I can also offer a place to stay if you want to come down the night before on the bus or train, and a few suggestions for good lunch spots.

    Keep me posted by e-mail.
