Keep Oregon Blue

We were going to hold off on mentioning this until we were certain it was officially live, but we see that one of its contributors has already announced it. It showed up in our referer logs a week or so ago, and today we noticed that it has started to accumulate content.

What are we talking about? We're talking about BlueOregon, a self-described "place for progressive Oregonians to gather 'round the water cooler and share news, commentary, and gossip." Or, to use a term we may or may not have coined a few years back (it's difficult to know for sure), it's a "gang blog."

It's early yet, so there's not much there, but they certainly appear to have something of an all-star cast of contributors, including the above-linked Jeff Alworth, the allegedly-deblogged Jack Bogdanski, Charles Heying (many readers know him from the fight to protect the Mt. Tabor reservoirs), Wendy Radmacher-Willis (executive director of the City Club of Portland) and even Commissioner Randy Leonard.

BlueOregon is the creation of Kari Chisholm, once upon a time the chair of the late and lamented X-PAC Alworth, Jesse Cornett and Kari Chisholm (once upon a time the chair of the late and lamented X-PAC). It's been duly added to the list of regional weblogs in our left-hand sidebar.

It is actually a co-creation of Kari's, Jesse Cornett, and mine, though admittedly Kari has done the lion's share of work.

As a historical note, your experiment here is one of the inspirations for our effort. You took the blog form and expanded and pushed the outer boundaries. We've spent some time thinking about how to join you in increasing the scope and utility of blogs. No promises, but I'm incautiously optimistic.

Well, it's good to see that the spirit of The Oregon Blog will continue on somewhere, and suddenly with a whole slew of people ready to go.

Wow - thanks, b!x... Yes, our hope is that our "all-star" cast - including a number of folks who haven't yet dipped their toes into the blogging pool - will make quite the splash.

We're hoping to make a substantial contribution to the intellectual (and sometimes comedic) life of Oregon. We'll see how it goes... Thanks for the good thoughts.

Meanwhile, we need to convince Wendy to convince the City Club that it needs a weblog of its own.

Stay tuned and watch the City Club website in September.

Heh, yah ok. I actually poked that because something the new president said at a Friday Forum made me think something along those lines might be in the works.

Is it me, or does the domain not go anywhere? I'm not getting it here, but am getting the dotster registration page...
