'Communique' Enters Online Journalism Awards

Reader Contributions Cover Entry Fees

Thanks to the beneficence of several readers, we finally sat down today and submitted our entries to the 2004 Online Journalism Awards. As intended, we entered in both the General Excellence and Online Commentary Categories.

In the category of General Excellence in Online Journalism, entrants may submit "one main URL and up to three additional sub-URLs in the same domain (to highlight specific features)." In addition to our main URL, we chose to submit the URLs to our 2004 Mayoral Campaign, Design & Development, and Same-Sex Marriage category archives.

In the category of Online Commentary, entrants may submit "up to three examples." We chose to submit The Process Distraction, Part II, Why Officer Sean Macomber Is The Key, and False Evidence Plus The Smearing Of Islam.

Primarily, it is our hope that we at least can manage to sneak our way into the list of finalists. In general, this has less to do with seeking journalistic recognition for our experiment here (although that would, of course, be nice) than it has to do with the possible benefits of being able to refer to ourselves as a finalist for such an award when it comes to trying to find financial support for this site.

Our thanks once again to all of the readers who met our fundraising goal for the entry fees, and did so within twenty-four hours of our having posted the announcement and request.

    B!X/Communique Folks....

So... I am pretty unfamiliar with the awards process... is this something a "panel" will vote on? or do readers/citizens get a say???

    It says in the FAQ:

Q: How will the judging take place?
A: A two-step process will determine the winners. A set of screeners, working remotely, will narrow down the entries to five finalists in each category. These screeners are online journalists from around the world. Then the judges of the Online Journalism Awards, a group of distinguished journalists, will meet in person to pick the winners.

I have no idea who the judges are.

Well...I'm sure all your readers are rootin' for who they know should be the winner.

Thanks. I am sure that if the judges are journalists, online or otherwise, you have a hell of a good chance of doing well. Keep it up....
