(Updated) Development Commission Okays Issuing RFP For Burnside Bridgehead
Citizen Advisory Committee Had Requested The Action
Note: This post has been updated. Any and all updates appear at the end of the original post.
This will be a rare very-brief item, because there's no large developments here, but it's an important update for those who want to make sure things are proceeding as planned.
Two weeks ago, we reported that the Central Eastside Urban Renewal Advisory Committee voted to ask the Portland Development Commission to issue a Request for Proposals seeking fresh ideas for the so-called Burnside Bridgehead Redevelopment Project -- more poprularly known as the potential development at the east end of the Burnside Bridge which was conceived as being anchored by a "big box" retail tenant such as Home Depot.
Under the URAC's plan, their next meeting, on July 12, would be turned into something of an open house or workshop to assemble the criteria for the intended RFP. But in order to proceed with this plan, Don Maziotti, executive Director of PDC, would have to approve issuing an RFP.
Responding to an email we sent out yesterday, Lew Bowers of PDC said that Maziotti has approved the RFP plan. "Staff intends to bring the key components of the RFP to the July 12 URAC meeting," he wrote. "This meeting will be structured so that there is ample opportunity for public and URAC input into the RFP."
Update
People who want to attend the special work session to discuss the RFP should take note that this month's URAC meeting is in a different location. It will be held on July 12, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at the OMSI Auditorium.
