(Updated) May 18 Primary Election: VOTE OR DIE!

Note: This post has been updated. Any and all updates appear at the end of the original post.

There's really nothing especially new to add to our election coverage now that the day has arrived. We dropped off our own ballot earlier this afternoon at the Elections Division and, as we usually do, stuck around for awhile to watch people pulling up to deliver their ballots by car or bicycle. We even saw one on-duty taxi with a fare in the back seat drop theirs off (we couldn't tell if this was for the driver or the passenger).

In the meantime, since some people read this site through it's syndication feed and therefore when they click through are seeing the individual posts rather than our front page, here are the handy reference links we provided there.

We'll be back throughout the evening once the results begin to come in and various news outlets begin making their predictions and calling the various races based upon their own information. In the meantime, if you still have not voted, you have approximately 3 1/2 hours to get your ballot in to an official drop site. Do it.

Remember: A majority of the City Council is up for grabs in this election. That means the direction of the City itself is on the line.

Update

Oh, yeah. It's increasingly likely that we will be staying at PORTLAND COMMUNIQUE headquarters this evening. Some people don't play well with others. We don't play well with large groups of others. Big social scenes are a psychological and financial hazard best avoided at this point in our life.

But if any of our readers are going to be out and about and find that they can avail themselves of a computer, drop us a line and let us know what the election night scene looks like.

Update

At 2:45 PM, turnout in Multnomah County was at 34%. The 5:00 PM update put this at 36%. At that same hour two years ago (our previous primary), turnout was at 37%. In that election, the final turnout was just under 47%.

Wow. There's an election today? I had no idea. I knew there was an election coming up sometime this year. I'm not an uninformed idiot - I just focus on national politics as I've given up on the morons in this city. At this point, I don't really care which idiot we have. New mayor same as the old mayor... although I wouldn't be upset if Busse managed to get elected.

Just dropped off my ballot as well as my wife's. Since my wife allowed me to vote for her, two ballots were turned in voting for all of b!x's endorsements.

It was difficult to get enthusiastic about this election, but I hear what you say b!x about the City Council, and the future of the direction of our city.

Thanks for doing an excellent job of research. Most of the research I've had the time to do myself has been at the Communique. I like what I've read for the most part.

My bad....didn't agree with you on Commish #4 or Naito and RDS.

Since my wife allowed me to vote for her...

For the record, the elections office claims this is illegal. I called to ask them if someone could give me their ballot and let me fill it out if that person trusted me. The elections office asked their legal advisor, and she gave the opinion that this was illegal under Oregon law.

Not that you'd get prosecuted, just thought I'd pass along an interesting (?) note!
