Endorsement: James Jahar Perez For District Attorney
In Protest Of Michael Schrunk's Contempt For Professional Ethics
It's obvious from our immediately-preceding item that we want District Attorney Michael Schrunk removed from office. It's also obvious from our update to that item that we forgot Schrunk is up for re-election in the May 18 primary. Any potential recall effort against him should therefore be delayed until after his inevitable re-election, since if such a recall were successful it would only apply to his current term, and he would therefore only be out of office for a few months.
In a reader comment to our previous item on Schrunk's abuse of office, it is pointed out that some people have already begun to enter the name of James Jahar Perez as a write-in candidate for Schrunk's job.
While we admit to some reluctance to make such a political use of Perez' name, it is clearly the most immediate way to make a clear statement about Schrunk's performance in handling the case against Officers Jason Sery and Sean Macomber.
We can't imagine that there is enough time, with the election now less than two weeks away, for anyone to mount a serious write-in campaign. All we are left with, then, is a protest vote.
Make it large enough in terms of the numbers, and at the very least it will have to be reported come election day. And so we officially encourage a protest campaign against Michael Schrunk, and endorse James Jahar Perez as the name to be used in the write-in slot for the office of District Attorney.

If I had the money I would run a campaign, "Perez for District Attorney."
I would have lawn signs made and go put one in Shrunk's yard

How funny. Just last night I was filling in my ballot and, noting the large number of unopposed Democratic nominees, began filling in my sarcastic write-in candidates. Until I got to the DA slot. Perez's name came immediately to mind, so I wrote him in. Today I went to blog on it, and found this entry. How zeitgeist can ya get?

I already voted for Alan Graf, since I wasn't voting for Schrunk.
