(Updated) A Few Random Late-Nite Observations

Note: This post has been updated. Any and all updates appear at the end of the original post.

Interesting hopping from channel to channel for the late-night newscasts. One station -- KGW -- had a reporter standing in a completely empty Francesconi party location (described on another station -- KATU -- as "subdued" even when it was underway), while people continued to party somewhat at the Potter location.

Also interesting to see Francesconi asked to respond to Potter's challenge to meet Potter's new $100/person contribution limits only to have Francesconi say he had Potter have to talk, but he wouldn't respond to that now.

KATU had Potter on live via satellite, and Francesconi one live in the studio. KOIN, meanwhile, wasn't doing anything particularly interesting.

But a brief word about Steve Dunn at KATU who insists on including personal spin in his anchoring of the news. In the introduction to mentions of the County Commissioner races, Dunn said that Rojo de Steffey and Natio had "voted in secret" to launch gay marriages. Well, no, Steve, that's not what they did. If you want to spin the news with your own slant, go become your station's commentator or start a weblog. But if you're going to play the role of the allegedly objective news anchor, stop lying to your viewers.

Update

Potter reportedly reached out to supporters of Phil Busse and Brad Taylor. But since Extremo the Clown seems to have received more votes than Taylor, will Potter reach out to his supporters as well?

Update

Also interesting, from the very start of KGW's coverage at 8:00 PM was when they asked Mayor Katz who she would rather see succeed her: Potter or Francesconi. Katz's explanation was that she had a lot do to before leaving office, and shouldn't get involved in electoral politics because she still has to work with members of the Council, especially one of them. Which pretty clearly tells you her answer, even thought she didn't come right out and say it.

It probably would have been worse for RdS and Naito had Steve Dunn said the more factual "conspired" in secret. "voted" at least had a bit of a democratic ring to it. He was being generous to them. I don't understand why you don't see that back room politics poisons the political process.
