The Frontlines Of History
One all-too-brief item before we close out the night. No attempts at analysis. No rants. No long-winded attempts to make some sort of argument. No, just a single paragraph to point along from this AP story, in the wake of Attorney General Hardy Myers' legal opinion:
But the state will not try to compel the county to stop, meaning Portland apparently is the only in the city in the nation where gay couples can get married.
It's anyone's guess what Monday will bring, when Multnomah County announces where it goes from here. But bask in it while you can, just in case. Raise a glass. Say a prayer (urged the agnostic). Because right now, in this moment: We're it.

Oregon: the only state with assisted suicide, AND no sales tax, AND same-sex marriage! If this doesn't bring the tourists in. . . .

There are actually a handful of states with no sales tax, FWIW... Alaska, Delaware, New Hampshire, Montana, and Oregon.

I knew that a fwe other states have no general sales tax, but Oregon's the only one to hit the trifecta.
