Just Another Lawyer?

Governor Shows Signs Of Cognitive Dissonance

Further muddling the matter of just what the Governor is up to by putting off until next week the Attorney General's legal brief on same-sex marriage so he can discuss it with him privately first is a comment he reportedly made regarding the Legislative Counsel's legal opinion which was released earlier this week:

"It's just another lawyer talking," Democratic Gov. Ted Kulongoski said, dismissing the report.

Well, Ted, the Attorney General's legal opinion will also be "just another lawyer talking" in case you had forgotten.

So in the event he manages to come to a conclusion that assists your own personal opposition to equal rights for same-sex couples, will you ignore his opinion?

Or is it that a legal opinion with which you happen to disagree is "just another lawyer talking" while those which support your prejudice will be considered valid and binding?

WWP disagrees with the governor's stated position on this, as well.

But his comments probably have less to do with "prejudice" than another word that also starts with P..."politics."

[This is beginning to sound a little too much like Prof. Harold Hill...]

Lawyers' opinions don't count; only judges' opinions do. Perhaps Ted has already polled the Oregon Supreme Court judges on the issue and knows the ultimate resolution.
