Breaking News: Citizen Committee To Discuss The 'Process Question'
Group To Examine How County Reached Decision
Yesterday, the Executive Committee of Multnomah County's Citizen Involvement Committee decided the group "should review the process by which the county decided to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples." The topic has been added to the Committee's March 18 agenda, and will include time for public testimony.
"The committee does not take positions on issues, but it is our responsibility to oversee the process and ensure that citizens have the opportunity to have their views heard," said committee chair Ken Ray in a news release this afternoon. "We have heard concerns about the process directly from citizens, as well as those expressed in the media."
Multnomah County's Citizen Involvement Committee is an independent body established in the County Charter and is made up of three representatives from each Commissioner District and three at large representatives.
The meeting which includes discussion on the "process question" will be held on March 18 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Multnomah Building, located at 501 SE Hawthorne Boulevard.
According to the County's Office of Citizen Involvement: "The CIC allows public comment at all its meetings but we anticipate there will be quite a bit more than usual (there usually isn't any) because of the recent decision."

In theory, if scheduling holds, the Tuesday before this meeting will be when the Portland Tribune publishes a commentary version of The Process Distraction, Part II.

That toothpaste is waaaay out of the tube. Best time to look at process is before or during -- not afterwards. Doh.

Well, its a citizens committee that had nothing to do with the process, but they are charged with looking at the County's public processes, so one supposes its within their purview to discuss.

For anyone on a "citizens involvement committee" for MultCo, this has got to the lowest moment. Just another example of how, around here, the politicians want your input only when they know you're going to tell them what they want to hear.
If I were on that committee, I'd resign.

All the more reason to BE involved.
"That toothpaste is waaaay out of the tube."
That may very well be but plenty of others will be buying toothpaste from tubes in the future. Thank goodness those that fostered change in the past didn't feel the same way.
