(Updated) Who Is Kelly Boggs?

Note: This post has been updated. Any and all updates appear at the end of the original post.

So just who is Kelly W. Boggs, one of the chief petitioners for the four initiatives against gay marriage here in Oregon?

Well, as it turns out, Boggs has a website called The Sentinel Institute. Its mission? "Penetrating the fog ofpopular culture with the lightof Truth."

Boggs' website even includes what he calls the BoggsBlog, wherein he offers what he calls, "Stream of consciousness thoughts, observations, and insights on popular culture."

"For more than two decades," says his bio, "Kelly Boggs has sought to engage the prevailing culture with biblical truth."

His bio also says that he and Mindy, his wife of 17 years, "are blessed with four wonderful children, whom they home school." Also part of the Boggs family, it says, are "two cats and one rambunctious canine."

But apparently two gay men or two gay women don't a proper family make, for Mr. Boggs.

Parenthetically, Kent Walton (one of the other petitioners involved), according to Google has affiliations with something called the Oregon State Leadership Network, which may or may not be the same thing as the Oregon State Coalition of Men's Ministry and Leadership Network, and may or may not still conduct a prayer group at Celebration Tabernacle in inner northeast Portland.

Thus far, we've had no luck Googling for Thomas S. Harrison IV, the third chief petitioner.

Thanks for the info. That's just fascinating. What's even more interesting is that I was raised in the same fundamentalist "culture" that Kelly Boggs claims to promote. I know what motivates people like him, I know what causes them to react unreasonably and fearfully, and I know how to counter and ultimately expose the rediculous rhetoric he and others like him spew.

    Mr. Evans,

Pray tell, what motivates a person like Kelly Boggs to "spew" "rediculous rhetoric" and what "causes [him] to react unreasonably and fearfully". I would be interested to read your conclusions, based on the idea that you were raised "in the same fundamentalist 'culture'", and judge for myself if your reaction is reasonable or just rhetoric in and of itself.

In response to who is Kelly Boggs, and the responses to the likes or dis likes of him.
Kelly Boggs is a Truth spewing, if that's what you want to call it, Pastor. You can catch him preaching any given Sunday, Morn. & Eve. If you dare to come, be ready to hear the Word of God. That's right, the word of God. Not Kelly Boggs, God. If it makes you uncomfortable to hear the truth, than you will be uncomfortable. Many times I squirm in my seat, Not because of what Kelly is saying, but by what God is laying on my own heart. We are all sinners, each and every one of us, Kelly Boggs included. He is not a hate monger, He does not hate the gay and lesbian people. He hates sin, ALL SIN, as we all should. This is only one sin of many that Kelly Stands fast against. How about the abortion issue? Murder or Choice? Choose to Murder? Again, Kelly does not hate the women that have made the choice to have an abortion, he loves them, as Jesus loves them. Because Jesus lives within him, and to do otherwise would be a sin in itself. If we truly love those around us, and truly believe that those that have fallen away from the true Word of God are going straight to hell, than we must do all we can to set ALL back on the right path. There are those teaching and preaching things other than the truth of God. Yes, they use the same Bible, but twist the truth around to fit into their own agenda. Often times leaving out the parts that offend those to whom they are catering to. These false teachings will only lead to one place,HELL! Not only for the followers but for those preaching it. You may think we too, have an agenda, and we do, but no twisting of the Word, Gods true and Holy Word, is needed. The agenda is to take as many people as possible with us to heaven. Do you really think Kelly Boggs, would go to such lengths, as to be called a slug lover and worse, if he did not believe that he was serving as a disciple of Jesus Christ? This God, my God, IS the God of Love! If you just sit down and read the book, front to back, with only the Holy Spirit as your guide, you will see the truth, and Gods Truth (The only truth that counts for anything)will set you free. Now granted, you must first ask Jesus into your life, for the Holy Spirit to guide you through the Bible, what do you have to lose? ALLOT! Eternity is for everyone, where you spend it is what Kelly Boggs is most concerned about. He doesn't get paid enough to do what he does here on earth, his rewards are in Heaven, and yours can be too.
