Ice Rink Returns Again... Well, Maybe
According to an article in The Oregonian last week, the board of Pioneer Courthouse Square once again is revisiting Ye Olde Skating Rink, but through a somewhat different context:
The board that manages Pioneer Courthouse Square will hold community meetings around Portland in March to consider ideas for wintertime activities in the city's signature public space.
The square's board president, Gordon Sondland, said Thursday that the board is "sort of starting with a clean sheet of paper" with plans to make the square a destination during the dead winter months.
As we've previously reported (did I forget to mention I've decided to start throwing around the editorial "we" for the Hell of it?), a board meeting last year included discussion on a more general "Winter programming" approach. Apparently, this is now the direction in which things are heading in the aftermath ofprevious attempts to ram an ice rink down people's throats, for which "the board took heat from the public."
Parenthetically, I perhaps could have attended the board meeting at which this most recent approach was discussed, if not for the fact that I am not allowed to receive notice of such meetings, owing to the fact that they only send them out via fax.
