Extension Of Downtown Waterfront Urban Renewal Area Delayed Again

City Council Questions To Be Addressed Next Week

Catching up on Wednesday's agenda, the City Council carried over its consideration of extending the Downtown Waterfront Urban Renewal Area to next week's session.

Why? To give more time (in part due to the public interest in the issue, according to the Portland Development Commissioner representative who briefly appeared before Council to agree to the delay) for the PDC and City Council to get into a conversation about the questions Council members raised at last week's session.

Interested readers can get a head start on next week's session by reading PDC's responses (pdf) to Council members' questions. We'd try to analyze them here, but the document gets into specifics about urban renewal even more arcane than those with which we've dealt here before.

Expect more on just what the questions and answers mean, exactly -- and on the specifics of what sounds like is going to be a revised ordinance -- sometime next week.
