Round-Up Of Stories On Measure 30
Hopefully, readers are in the mood for a quickie, because I'm not going to do much here other than collect pointers to today's Measure 30 stories. For what it's worth, there may also be a couple of items in the News Extras (scroll down for that).
Starting with today's Portland Tribune: A consideration of whether or not Multnomah County (dubbed the "eternal revenue service") will support Measure 30, seeing as how it's "the third time in 53 weeks" the county will vote on raising income taxes; a list of frequently-asked questions, and of course their answers, is provided; an explanation of how the Multnomah County income tax passed last year "protects county school districts from the financial effects of voters rejecting the state tax increase"; and, finally, some background leading into two commentaries, one about business supporting the measure, and the other on how it will harm the state's economy.
Moving to today's Oregonian: Another look at the importance of Multnomah County when it comes to the vote; a report on County Chair Dianne Linn not quite guaranteeing that there will be refunds to county taxpayers if Measure 30 passes; a voters' guide; a check of how public defenders and Oregon courts will or will not be affected (also this item); and an editorial endorsement of Measure 30.
To take a tour through other coverage of Measure 30, try this Google News search or this Topix search, both of which will direct you to countless articles and commentaries from around the state.
(Parenthetically, you may be seeing more of such Google and Topix links here, on various subjects. Although I'm trying to pull interesting links into the News Extras section, there's always more out there than I can reasonably notice. And while I have a mainly Portland focus here, these search links will, hopefully, provide avenues for readers to find out what other parts of Oregon are saying, and how they cover the issues at hand.)
