Personal Economics Knocks 'Communique' Offline (And What This Means For The Future)
Yes, PORTLAND COMMUNIQUE disappeared. Here's the story, mostly.
My ability to engage in this experiment in "hobbyist reporting," and its increasing use of original material rather than only commenting on what's in the papers, has been made possible over the last year by not having had to be working. This did, however, include the time-honored tradition of juggling bills. Simply: I managed to juggle my telephone bill one day too many, which resulted in my telephone, and therefore my DSL, getting disconnected this week.
And since COMMUNIQUE is served out of my apartment, this meant everything got knocked offline (including email).
At the moment, the situation means two things: (1) This temporary interim weblog (thanks to Paul of ORblogs), whose contents will be imported/transferred into the regular system once my connectivity is restored; and (2) the likely abandonment of all future material here other than the basic form of commenting on what's in the papers, since I obviously have to go back to some sort of "real" job, whose time commitments will preclude being able to attend events in order to do original reporting on them.
But for now, material -- original or otherwise -- will continue to be posted via this interim weblog, and then at the regular one upon restorating of connectivity. Later, when I'm working (wherever that ends up being), the second year of PORTLAND COMMUNIQUE will likely be significantly less, well, unique than it has been.
So, this temporary site will be here until I can get everything back up and running at home. However, email will continue to be down until my own systems return to active duty.
