Voices Of Portland
In 1976, the Neighborhood History Project published a 90-page compilation of oral histories from Portland's neighborhoods, assembled by volunteers who (according to the Introduction) had gone "out in their neighborhoods with tape-recorders, sometimes exploring basements and attics to track down old photographs, mostly sitting and talking with neighbors about Portland and history from the shanghai days to World War II."
Now, PORTLAND COMMUNIQUE Press is proud to offer a reproduction of the original booklet, which was available in "a minimum number of inexpensively published books" according to Don MacGillivray, who worked on the original project.
With the publication of Voices of Portland, PORTLAND COMMUNIQUE Press launches its campaign to publish reproductions of out-of-print, unavailable, or rare books from or about Portland's history.
Update (11/28): Speaking of the above, I need recommendations for someone local who can un-bind a book for me, so that it's in an easy format to scan. If you know of someone, please post a comment here or send me email.
