Public Comment Sought On Fate Of Downtown Waterfront Urban Renewal Area

As recently mentioned, the future of the Downtown Waterfront Urban Renewal Area is on the agenda, as it is due to expire in April 2004.

Portland Development Commission is inviting public comment on the so-called DTWF URA in advance of their determination to be made in December. PDC recently held a public hearing on the matter on November 19, and (at the URL above) offers a Shockwave Flash version of a Powerpoint presentation on the DTWF URA, as well as a downloadable version (pdf) with notes.

In related news, the Naito family continues to fight over providing a possible new home for a new headquarters fire station, all of which involves property within the DTWF URA.

Further related -- to both of these issues, as it turns out -- supporters of a Portland Public Market are asking people to tell PDC to include that project in any future plans for the area. Why is this related? Because the current proposal calls for the Market to be built on the site of the current fire station, which of course would have to be relocated in order for that to happen.

In addition to providing feedback via the PDC website linked above, there will be a public hearing, presumably including time for public comment, otherwise why call it a "public hearing"), on the DTWF URA to be held on Wednesday, December 10, beginning at 3:00 PM, at the Multnomah County Building on 501 SE Hawthorne Boulevard.
