Call For Website Layout Redesign Tests

It's that time again. I'm testing out a new layout for this site. The potential new design is intended, once it's working right, to make things a little more straightforward, mainly by dividing the sidebar content into two different sidebars: One for site-related links, and another for external links and data.

As the present time, under OS X, Safari, Mozilla Firebird, and Omniweb appear to be rendering the new layout satisfactorily. On the other hand, Internet Explorer scatters the various layout elements all over the page as if a bomb went off.

While I have various people checking the new layout under various combinations of operating system and Web browser, and should get the chance to do some testing under other environments later today, I'd appreciate it if some of you would take a look at the test page and post comments here.

Please include your operating system, browser, and any descriptive information on what you're seeing. Alternatively, you could screenshot it, and send me the image via the Contact link in sidebar on the page you're reading now.

Note: It isn't necessary -- and in fact won't yield any relevant information -- to click on any of the links on the new layout test page. That single page is where all the layout tests are being performed.

Also note that some of the images will not load, but will be replaced by a placeholder. However, the image dimensions should be set in most browsers, so this shouldn't interfere with the layout rendering.

My thanks.

    Safari 1.0 v85.5

Looks good, but feels "smaller" than the current page.

    IE for Mac 5.2.2 (5010.1)

Looks terrible. LH column gone, it's now floating below and to the left of the main area. Banner showing below the graphic of the city from the air. Background of title also does not match backgound color brown. (Try using a second graphic of about 5x5 pixels, tiled.)

First paragraph of main post is squished to about three pixels wide and shifted to the left inside that box.

    Mozilla 1.5 / Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007

Looks as good as Safari, but the little graphics at bottom right are not showing.
