Ron Tonkin Statement On Mayoral Possibilities
Recently, I sent an email regarding the potential mayoral bid by Ron Tonkin via a feedback form on the website for his auto dealerships, unsure if it would actually find its way to its intended recipient.
Late this afternoon, I received a response from Ron Tonkin:
Yes, I have been approached and urged to seriously consider running for Mayor. I have NO commitment, NO baggage, and positively No decision.
So there you have it. While it doesn't resolve the matter of just who approached him, it does confirm that it wasn't simply Tonkin musing about the idea in a vacuum.

How old is Ron? He's gotta be getting up there.
Can you imagine the many used car salesman -jokes his candidacy would evoke?

Personally, I'd like to see him make a run. I would support him.
Business retention and development are the most important issue facing our city in the next few years. We need someone like Tonkin, who has built an extremely successful business from very humble beginnings and has spent the last forty years signing the front of paychecks. If you check the resumes of the current city Mothers and Fathers you will find virtually no private sector experience and no business ownership or management experience. Tonkin's column in the Tribune was right on. You can't have good public services without a healthy economy.

A friend of mine was scammed by his company. I can't imagine that a used car salesman could become mayor of Portland. If it happened, I'd just have to leave this country entirely.

Isn't just a typical assumption that everyone thinks they got screwed by the used car salesman. I believe the real problem is not Ron but the lack of research done by your average auto consumer.
