On Saturday, September 6, 2003, at noon, a team from the Portland Police Bureau will attempt to once again become rib eating champions by out-eating a team of firefighters in a benefit for the Albertina Kerr Center. The Portland Police Bureau volunteer team, champions in 2001, will compete in the contest as part of this year's Bones and Brew. The competition will take place at the Rogue Ales Public House located at 1339 NW Flanders Street.
No, rest assured, I'm not trying to make some oblique point here. Raising money for Albertina Kerr absolutely is nothing to sneeze at. I just found the juxtaposition of the two events occurring at the same time strangely compelling.
