Ripple Effects (A Digression)

My parents and a grandparent live in Albany, NY, and are presumably still without power and incommunicado. A friend of mine with a two-year-old recently moved to New York State -- she is stuck on a train, and her son is stuck at daycare. She is also incommunicado, except via email to her cellphone, oddly enough.

My own cellphone is useless for trying to get ahold of people even if things on that end were working, because it's disconnected until I pay a bill tomorrow (which is payday). My home phone has no long distance, so I have to use those "10-10" numbers, which doesn't matter anyway because everyone out there is inaccessible by telephone.

Thus, I am going up the street to have coffee. That is all. Back later for normal Portland-related posting activity.

Your phone situation is eerily similar to mine right now except I may actually get long distance service tomorrow instead of cell service.
