The Rose Man Cometh
Not to bump the Mayor's announcement out of top position so soon, but I needed to toss out this other tidbit related to the world of Oregon politics. Yesterday at the new location of the Great Northwest Bookstore, former Senator Mark O. Hatfield volunteered to maintain the rose bushes outside.
Yes, there is some social connection between the Senator and the people behind the bookstore. So this wasn't entirely random. But no, I don't exactly know the story of that connection.

The Senator made friends with our manager, John, when he worked at Powell's many moons ago.
When John changed jobs, the Senator kept coming to where his friend was, and as a result the whole store got to know the good Senator as well.
