Forum On Kendra James Shooting Officially Announced (Plus: Independent Police Review Seeks Volunteers)
Apparently this was announced yesterday by the Mayor's office, from whom I am apparently still not getting actual important media announcements. But here are the details, as passed along by The Oregonian:
The Albina Ministerial Alliance has been organizing the forum with officials from Mayor Vera Katz's office and the Portland Police Bureau. It will give the public an opportunity to ask the police chief, the district attorney and other law enforcement officials questions about the May 5 police shooting and police use of deadly force.
The forum will be held from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Tuesday, July 1, at the Mount Olivet Baptist Church Family Center, located at 8725 North Chautauqua Boulevard.
In a somewhat related matter, the Independent Police Review is seeking volunteers for its Citizen Review Committee:
The principal duties will include the following: making objective decisions when citizens appeal the results of police misconduct investigations; participating in orientation and training about policing; advising on complaint handling; working with IPR staff to conduct in-depth policy reviews related to the Police Bureau; and gathering community concerns about police policies and procedures.
You can download an application from the City's website. They must be received by 5:00 PM on Friday, July 19, at the IPR office (Room 320) in City Hall.
