Don't Be Afraid Of Your Freedom
This evening I completed my final responsibility as an organizer for the Portland Bill of Rights Defense Committee, serving as the master of ceremonies for tonight's Community Action Forum on "Civil Liberty and Homeland Security."
As of now, I am strictly the editor the The One True b!X's PORTLAND COMMUNIQUE (and, additionally, job seeker).
After I've gotten a bit of distance, I may write a bit about tonight's forum here. But since I spent a good portion of the evening in a sort of twilight zone haze, fretting and worrying about how things were proceeding, that I really don't have a overview sense of how things went.
I will continue, naturally enough, to have a clear bias in favor of defending civil liberties during the so-called war on terrorism, and still support the Defense Committee's goal of convincing the Portland City Council to pass a resolution in protest of the USA PATRIOT Act, as more than 100 other communities aross the United States have already done.
For now, I will be able to focus on this ongoing experiment in hobbyist journalism. Next up in that regard: Tomorrow's public forum on the Kendra James shooting, which will be only my second-ever event in an official media capacity.
Oh, and this headline? Don't be afraid of your freedom -- do what you can to held the local Defense Committee. As for me, I intend to not be afraid of my newfound freedom as an independent journalist without any organizational ties.

It's good work. Thanks for your effort. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that we'll all need to be vigilent to save our freedoms in the coming months and years as the pernicious Ashcroft/Bushies try to get firm control over the population.

I think that you made the right choice. Your defense of the Bill of
Rights is part of your overall defense of the various rights of the people of Portland to be the masters of their own fates--globally and locally.
