Shifty Baseball 'Angel' Abandons Portland
Last week, the Portland Tribune profiled the mystery of one Craig Marquardo:
Big-league baseball supporters say they're skeptical about a Florida man who thinks he can find investors for a privately funded Portland baseball stadium.
Among the issues: Craig Marquardo, owner of Fathom Motion Picture Co. in Hollywood, Fla., boasts of a colorful past packed with tough-to-verify claims.
Specifically, he says he played minor-league baseball in 1990, sang backup with the pop singer Sting at the age of 15 and was wounded in Iraq on an assignment after the Persian Gulf War.
Of course, the Tribune had a damnable time trying to find anyone who could verify any aspects of Marquardo's story.
Today, The Oregonian brings us the latest development: Marquardo is pulling out, in part thanks to the most recent peculiarity:
He also found the time to interview Leonard Nimoy for a startlingly candid Q&A published last week in a Hood River newspaper -- which was news to Nimoy.
"It is a total fabrication," said Jill Siegel, publicist for "Star Trek's" Mr. Spock.
Marquardo insists the interview is authentic, but he said Monday that questions about it and other inconsistencies in his resume have prompted him to drop his bid to bring major league baseball to Portland.
For what it's worth, feel free to read the alleged interview, which judging from the design of the site will, at some point, vanish altogether. His bio there describes him as "an experienced 30 year old."
Notice, as well, a letter to the editor on the same page challenging a previous piece by Marquardo which appeared in the same publication.

I can verify that he was the backup singer for Sting in 1988. After all, I was in the audience with my wife, Morgan Fairchild.

I recently happened upon some information about Marquardo. I do know him personally.Your urge to laugh him off is bona-fide. Do just that. Keep watching for his yellow underbelly to show up on the net in some stories.

This guy is a scammer, BS artist, Lousy actor, Bull shitter, and a scam artist. He doesnt own a business, Further, fuckoff, someting or rather "Motion Picture Company" according to the florida commision on film, was defunct on jan of 2000.
I live here in florida... and almost bought into Craigs line of bULL sHIT.
He has NEVER made 1 film of commercial importance EVER.

In a heated breakup with an ex-fiance, Marquardo broke down and confessed that he had never gone to the Gulf, sang with Sting - none of it. He also purchased a purple heart on e-bay and a suspecting ex found the printed receipt! He will go to many lenghts to fabricate and manipulate information to appear bona-fide. Yet the man still remains in business because he can talk a good line of BS!!

I just wanted to add that I know FIRST HAND, and PERSONALLY that Craig is a fraud. He has made his way into the papers on nothing but manipulation, a sharp tongue, and some big COJONES!
