Oregon also had the highest rate from July 2001 to April 2002. Between May and December 2002, Oregon's unemployment rate was second-highest in the nation behind that of Alaska. Oregon's unemployment rate peaked in this recession at 8.4 percent in January 2002 and has since been as low as 7.2 percent in August, September, and October of 2002.
