One Day Until 26-48, Continued

Certainly, there is no let-up in coverage of the last-minute push for Measure 26-48. First, we turn to KGW's coverage of election eve:

"We're feeling like we aren?t done working," said Nancy Hamilton, a field coordinator for the Yes on 26-48 campaign. "This next day is probably going to make it or break it for us. I don?t think anybody's feeling confident at this point; we need all the votes we can get."
...
Anti-tax activists have mounted a subdued campaign of lawn signs and mailings against the proposed tax. [Don McIntire, president of the Taxpayer Association of Oregon] said he anticipates the measure will pass and blamed a "lopsided" public debate that has concentrated on the plight of schools.

For what it's worth, at last week's aborted "Doonesbury" auction, either Multnomah County Chair Diane Linn or County Commissioner Serena Cruz (my notes are of utterly no help here) claimed that she recently had a conversation with McIntyre in which he all but admitted that, essentially, he favors the dismantling of the public education system. Just in case you ever wondered just what are the motivations of groups which oppose measures such as this one.

Meanwhile, another story, likely to end up in tomorrow's Oregonian, covers some of the same ground.

So here we go again: Vote, drop off your ballots, and if so inclined, don't forget the Yes on 26-48 party at the Kennedy School tomorrow night.
