(Updated) Brief Look at Local Coverage of the March
Note: This post has been updated. Any and all updates appear at the end of the original post.
Not much coverage of today's march in Northeast and North Portland has appeared online yet, although the local television newscasts did broadcast stories this evening.
KOIN, which didn't make it their top item (unlike KATU and KGW) ended up having the most informationally-complete story, making sure not only to include grievances such as wanting to change the state's "use of force" laws, but specifically mentioning the organizers' intentions to head to Salem on June 4.
But only KGW has any coverage online and even that's only an Associated Press piece, unrelated to KGW's television coverage:
Some of them believed Kendra James was shot because of race and others thought she was killed because of police brutality. Some said it was both. But the few thousand people who marched to the scene of her death Saturday were united in the belief that something has to change.
That AP story pegs attendance as a "few thousand," while television coverage ranged from "over 1,000" to "about 1,500." Then there's KEX 1190 which lowballs it to "a couple hundred."
Meanwhile, there's a small set of photos and accompanying text at Portland Independent Media Center.
Update
OPB has a short item as well. And there's more from Portland IMC in words, and in pictures (more of which are here).

1000 - 1500 seems about right. I estimated about 1000 at around 12:30 in Alberta Park - more probably joined in later, and the march picked up people en route.

At least 1500....
I counted it at about 10 people wide in the street. But since I didn't really get a chance to count, I can only go by previous protests...

The count I want to know is the word count on the CRITICAL MASS bike story in the "O" vs the march.. Sorry, I see a problem there with a girls life lost and bikers who want their own rules.
Before you bike types go off on me, let the parade folks think about that.

SEE.............recallvera.com
Right now we plan to be making the final move to start gathering signatures on June 6th.
We have need to identify any chances for rallys, gatherings of any sort to get people near us to get a signature for this effort, we will likely be running ads in the papers, we will be on the radio any chance we can to offer you all information as to where you may sign your name in support of this recall.
We ask new viewers of this site to subscribe to it, to be updated daily and weekly as to what we are doing.
You have the chance to support this effort in many ways.......you decide!
The rally we attended yesterday allowed us to network and pass out 1500 plus flyers on this effort. What was so wonderful was the people who came up to us and said they wanted to help after they had read one we had given out, and in some cases actually asked to help pass them out all along the march, even to cars and passerby's we met.
Ladies and gentlemen, this effort has taken a life all it's own, we thank you for it!!

In no defence of anyone, walking the parade, talking to people, knowing some cops......
The speechs, somethings needed to be said, somethings did not need to be said.
There were vailed militant calls for uprising from groups that didn't need to be there and religous leaders of one faith that forgot the peace and love his version is suppossed to abide by.
Cops I know say it wasnt racist but a rookie mistake and he needs to go for it.
The really bad side was there were no real tops cops there, and should have been.
These good folks have lost one of there own in a bad way, and a certain mayor I would like to recall(who has the police portfolio) needs to really get personally involved or we all better pray it snows in July.
AGAIN..in no defence of anyone, but like all who read this ,AND LIVES HERE....we better pay attention.....PERIOD!!
We must see change... bad shoot, or good shoot ,this one needs review and real change not only on the cop side but in the community for the clergy to find the ones that can be saved.. not just talking after death here on earth, but before they leave here... there own community can and should do more.
We have to help each other a lot more and damn soon.
