Antagonistic Recall Campaigns Challenge Seriousness, Compatability

Today's Oregonian covers the peculiar development of two mayoral recall campaigns again, in a story that also remembers to mention Moore's previous complaint against the Better Portland Alliance:

Although the two groups criticize Katz for very different reasons, the Better Portland Alliance said it would contact the other committee to offer its help in getting signatures. Alliance treasurer John Belgarde said his group wants to test whether the other group is sincere.
"There's nothing to say they're not trying to confuse the issue," Belgarde said, adding he does not expect the other committee to accept the offer. "If they're really serious, they'll work with us."
Marvin Moore, who filed the Recall Vera Katz Committee prospective petition, said Wednesday that he did not think the groups were compatible. But Moore, who has filed an elections complaint against the Better Portland Alliance, said he was open to talk about a joint effort.

It will be interesting to see if two groups, each taking a somewhat antogonistic stance towards the other, manage to work out some kind of effective arrangement.

But with Moore having filed a complaint against the BPA, and the BPA insinuating that Moore's campaign might merely be "confusing the issue" (coincidentally the same words used by Alexander B. Craghead, who also wrote about it earlier), I'm not holding my breath at this point.

Probably not a coincidence. I'm on Jack's email list and I've given him my analysis from time to time, since I sympathize, even though I don't feel comfortable becoming directly involved.

An "official response" if-you-will is posted on the blog here:

As Alexander said... This sort of feels wrong.

We honestly want the same goal, if this is as some think, It will be the nasty's thing done in Oregon poilitics in a long time, and it will be found out. THE DOOR IS WIDE OPEN, together we can write some history and take back a city in distress, and make a difference for all doing it.

If it is a "sham" the otherside will hang for it...bet on it!
