Peace Camp Eviction Imminent?
According to this post from a camper to Portland Indymedia, the Portland Peace Encampment yesterday afternoon was served with 24-hour notice:
According to Rozie Sizer, Commander of Portland Police Bureau Central Precinct, the Portland Peace Encampment across from Portland City Hall at SE 4th & Jefferson was notified at 1:30pm Thursday April 10th, 2003 that we were in violation of the Public Camping Ordinance. We have 24 hours to pack up everything, including chairs and move it out.
The camper in question claims to have notified the Portland Police that he will "peacefully cooperate" when the time comes, and will urge others to do the same. In addition, they claim that they have been told by Central Precinct's evening supervisor that the police will not make a move to enforce this order prior to the 1:30 PM deadline.
Naturally, Peace Camp is requesting that media and other observers be present come 1:30 PM today. Not to interfere, but to witness and document.
