PBA Offers to Buy Mayoral Election

And then, to switch gears, there's an amusing tidbit from today's Phil Stanford column in the Portland Tribune:

Hot tip of the day: The Portland Business Alliance -- which has made no secret of its displeasure with the way things have been going down at City Hall -- is planning to pump about a half-million bucks into the next mayor's race. Only problem is, they can't come up with a worthy candidate.

I guess that carrying the water for the PBA's position on the antiwar resolution just wasn't enough to get Commissioner Francesconi the Alliance's support for his upcoming mayoral bid. Now that the PBA is dangling the lure of $500,000 in front of the potential candidates, let's watch to see who jumps at it.

But in the meantime, here's a ponderable: If the PBA is technically chartered by the City to engage in promoting Portland business (and as a place to do business), why are they even allowed to pump money into a municipal election?

So that's where the money for Francesconi's golden toilet is coming from!

Blumenauer or Alan Graf are interesting choices for mayor.....still no word on whether Vera will run again?

As far as I can recall, Katz won't announce her plans until this Summer.
